The PhD in Anatomical Education Program, at Lincoln Memorial University, develops classically trained PhD level Anatomical Sciences Educators to address the profound shortage of highly qualified and experienced anatomical sciences educators. As a result of the rapid growth in the number of PA, PT, OT, and DO programs nationwide, the demand for highly trained PhDs in anatomy is continuing to rise. The Anatomical Education PhD program is designed for students who previously obtained a MS in Anatomy, or have equivalent experience, and want to continue their training to obtain a PhD in Anatomical Education.

Anatomical Education PhD students are provided with a rigorous curriculum in anatomical sciences including Medical Gross Anatomy, Medical Histology, Medical Neuroscience, and Human Embryology. Additionally, students receive training in pedagogy, basic science research methods, and education research methods. All students will complete dissertation research in fields related to anatomy or education.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the PhD in Anatomical Education program are expected to have taken the prerequisite courses listed below:

Pre-Requisite Courses

  1. Medical Gross Anatomy
  2. Medical Neuroanatomy
  3. Medical Histology

Recommended Courses

  1. Advanced Anatomical Dissection (if your anatomy course was lacking a dissection component)

The PhD degree requires a minimum of 60 credit hours to complete, with 12 of those hours devoted to dissertation work. Between your second and third years of the program, you will take preliminary/qualifying examinations.

Note: If you have NOT taken these pre-requisite courses, you must enroll in them at LMU-DCOM during your first year of coursework.
